Day 6

"modern meaning of tyrant: an abusive or oppressive ruler." "The greek meaning of tyrant: someone who simply seized power (usually with hostile help)."

Day 4

today in class we took we took notes. My notes we " homer remembered the oddessey by using rhythm. " "homer composed the Iliad and the oddessey, Trojan war= Iliad oddessey=guy trying to get home." "the homeric question is did homer really exist." "he was a blind old man who and 2 very good stories memeorized."

Today in class we took notes. My notes consisted of, "greek diet consists of grains, grapes, olives, and fish." "Lack of resources most likely led to greek colonization." Day 2

Today in class we took notes. Some of my notes are, "the sea shaped the ancient greek civilization, in one sense, the greeks didn't live on land but around water." "The land was very mountainous so the people settled in valleys but travel was hard through the mountains so they didn't have good communication between the greek communities." "Due to all the mountains there wasn't a lot of fertile farmland so the greeks couldn't ever maintain a large population." "Greek stories tell of their army's capture of the legendary city of Troy by hiding soldiers in a hollow wooden horse." "greeks had many gods and they all served a purpose in one way or another."

Day 1

Today in Mr. Shicks's Western civilization class we learned a few things and also learned how his classroom is ran.  For example we set up our blogs and learned that we had to complete one everyday that we had that class even if we weren't in class we still have to complete our daily blog if we want to get credit for that day. we also took roll so we learned who we would be in class with this semester.  We also started our first bit of class work we took notes out of our textbooks. It was on chapter 5 pages 118-126. My notes included, "The greek city-state Athens were the first to develop a new form of government called democracy."
