Day 10
Today in class we took notes out of our textbook, pages 127-133.
The chapter in the book is called "Warring City-States". My notes
consisted of "polis was made up of a city and its surrounding countryside,
which included numerous villages." " at the agora, or marketplace, or
on a fortified hilltop called an acropolis, citizens gathered to discuss city
government." “Greek city-states have many different forms of
government.” “In some, a single person called a king, ruled in a government
called a monarchy. Others developed an aristocracy, a government ruled by a
small group of noble, landowning family’s.” “These very rich families often
gained political power after serving in a king’s military cavalry.” “ Athens
was the first City-state to create a democracy and also are known as the
creators of democracy.”
