Day 24
Today in class we grades people project. my project consisted of, "The Greeks used several types of ranged weapons such as bow and arrows Javelins and slings. Even though the bow was uncommon among Greek war some troops treated their arrows by thrusting them into rotting corpses, thus creating a crude form of biological weapon. Peltast troops commonly used javelins, and hoplites and cavalry troops were also often equipped with javelins for throwing. They often used a tool called the amentum. The amentum helped increase the javilineers accuracy and distance . Swords:
Among Greek hoplites, the favored weapon was often the spear, used in conjunction with the shield. Yet every warrior also carried a sword, to act as a side-arm and replacement, should the spear be lost. And indeed, many Greek swords were every bit as deadly as the spear was.
Spears:
Ancient Greek weapons and armor were primarily geared towards combat between individuals. Their primary technique was called the phalanx, a formation consisting of massed shield wall, which required heavy frontal armor and medium-ranged weapons such as spears.
The Greeks had 10 different types of helmets. They had the Attic helmet, Boar's tusk helmet, Boeotian helmet, Chalcidian helmet, Corinthian helmet, Illyrian type helmet, Kegelhelm, Konos (helmet), Phrygian helmet, and the Pileus (hat). Greeks used shields to help them battle. The Greek shield of Ancient Greece was called a hoplon or aspis. These shields are multipurpose, They can deflect arrows and incoming objects from enemy lines. They were also used as plow, to charge into the enemy lines. Hoplon Shields were constructed out of deeply- dished wood. Hoplon shields were made quicker and less cost effective, but the con of them is that there they did not last has long. But most shields had a thin layer of mental to protect the wood and make the lifespan of the shield last a lot longer. The type of Body armor used was a heavy bronze chest plate. This was the most common type of armor worn at the time. Greeks word for armor was "thorax." The solders wanted to protect their torso but have their arms and legs and free and comfortable as possible. The chest plate did not go all the way down to their waste, to allow them to bend freely. The original armor was surprisingly light, it weighs about six pounds, and have about a millimeter of metal. But the more thicker and heavier armor weighed in at about 12 pounds. The modern representation of the armor is overestimated is weight. They make is too long, too wide, and too thick. "
