Day 26
1. Hellenistic culture was what spread Greek ideas and culture from the Eastern Mediterranean to Asia.
For more than two thousand years, Alexandria was the largest city in Egypt and was its capital for almost half of that time.
Euclid’s most famous work is his collection of 13 books, dealing with geometry, called The Elements.
Archimedes was the most-famous mathematician and inventor in ancient Greece.
The Colossus of Rhodes was one of the tallest statues of the ancient world. It only stood for 56 years until it was destroyed by an earthquake in 226 BC.
2. In my opinion, the Hellenistic achievement that had the greatest impact was their achievement in mathematics and physics. In this category, the Pythagorean Theorem was formed and further explained and set the actual formula down for the triangle. Another idea that was formed during the Hellenistic Culture was the value of "pi", which is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter.
3.Trade contributed to the cultural diversity of Alexandria by bringing into contact with each other a variety of cultures and beliefs from both east and west.
4.Euclid influenced some of the developments in astronomy during the Hellenistic Period by writing the Elements, which espoused proofs and principles that Hellenic astronomers would use as foundational beliefs in their study of the sun, earth.
5.Stoicism and Epicureanism both espoused that one should be in harmony with something, be it the Gods and natures laws, in the case of the former, or the body and mind, in the case of the latter.
